Under the general supervision of the Site Coordinator and Camp Director, and consistent with the YMCA mission, the Lead Counselor is responsible for overseeing an age group and implementation of activities. Provide guidance, leadership, values, education, and fun for children served by camp. The Lead Counselor is directly responsible for the safety and well being of children in his/her care. This person has the ability to accept guidance and supervision, has good moral character, is motivated, and shows enthusiasm. KNOW HOW:1.       Be able to provide sound, caring, and positive leadership to campers and staff.2.       Provide, to everyone, extraordinary customer service.3.       Be able to implement safety standards in all activities.4.       Be able to implement planned activities with other staff making all activities fun and exciting for all campers.5.       Have a good understanding of the mission and values of the YMCA and be able to demonstrate and teach from those values.6.       Pass a criminal background.7.       Offer positive reinforcement and proper behavior techniques to children and staff.8.       Must have some prior experience in a leadership role.9.       Attend mandatory CPR and First Aid training.10.    Must be at least 19 years of age.11.    Ability to motivate a high quality staff is critical. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to traverse a wide variety of terrain including fields, forest trails and rock formations in such a way as to be able to assure safety and supervision of children. Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat or kneel. Ability to carry equipment to appropriate destinations or affect the carrying of such equipment. Ability to use senses which enable safe supervision including seeing and/or hearing. PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:1.       Promote YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility. 2.       Act as a positive role model while providing consistency in leadership and guidance.3.       Stimulate creative growth and development. 4.       Responsible for the safety of campers at all times, including enforcement of camp rules and regulations.5.       Arrive at camp on time to start and complete work-related responsibilities before leaving. 6.       Keep proper records as required.7.       Responsible for training and supervision of counselors in your area. 8.       Always know the number of campers in your age group.9.       Build and maintain enthusiasm in your group.10.    Plan lesson plans for scheduled activities and support counselors in implementing them.11.    Maintain all equipment used for camp in good working order.12.    Assist other Leadership Staff with all training’s and meetings.13.    Report to Camp Leader any difficult or unusual situations. 14.    Report any incident to site coordinator or assistant site coordinator, no matter how minor.15.    Demonstrate proper group behavior at all times.16.    Assist those campers and staff who may need help fitting into the camp atmosphere.17.    Adhere to Metro Atlanta YMCA policies and procedures.18.    Perform other duties as necessary. END RESULT:A safe, quality day camp programs that meet the YMCA goals and objectives of providing campers with a positive growth experience.
