After Schhol Counselor

Under the direction of the After School Site Director, the After School Counselor is responsible for leading his/her assigned group in various planned activities to support the overall goals of the program.   The counselor is also responsible for serving as a liaison between staff and families.   All decisions must be guided by YMCA standards.    Know How: 1.       Must be 18 years of age. 2.       Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. 3.       Must complete a satisfactory criminal record check. 4.       Have prior experience working with school-age children in a group setting.   5.       Excellent English verbal/written communication skills.  Essential Functions: 1.       Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction. 2.       Take daily attendance at the start of the program 3.       Assure the children are safe and secure at all times. 4.       Establish open lines of communication with school system staff. 5.       Establish open lines of communication between staff and families. 6.       Provide children with assistance in completing homework assignments.  Assist in planning and implementing the program according YMCA and  DHR licensing guidelines. 7.       Attend trainings as scheduled. 8.       Consult with the Director(s) on concerns related to student(s) development or behavior. 9.       Perform other duties as related to the delivery of a quality before-school program.  Ergonomic Requirements:  Bending, stooping, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, seeing, verbal communication, and hearing.  Effect of end Result: Children and Families will experience a high quality school-age program.   Children will be supervised at all times.   Staff will comply with all rules.
