WHY YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

By: ALLIE COMBS

(GAINESVILLE, Ga) Don’t let the name fool you, "The Vampire Diaries" may have emerged because of the recent Stephenie Meyer-induced vampire frenzy, but it can easily stand on its own. The vampires are more traditional (you’ll find no sparkly vampires here) with a few unique tricks up their sleeves. The villains are devious and deliciously evil, and our heroine, Elena, doesn’t want to be a vampire, despite her hunky forever-young boyfriend. Elena also lacks the melodramatics’ of Bella Swan. The show is refreshingly original, unpredictable, exciting and manages to retain a twisted plot without being soap opera dramatic.

RALLYING FOR A CAUSE 365 DAYS A YEAR

By: JULISSA WHITE

(GAINESVILLE, Ga)  Every single one of the months marked in the 12 month calendar may be recognized as an opportunity for the American public to increase their activism and awareness. Be it January for poverty awareness, May for hepatitis awareness or November as National Inspirational Role Models Month, every month comes with awareness. Some may argue that these awareness-month themes are corporate ploys created to funnel money into a cause by giving it selective momentary attention, and that they play favorites to a select few of the numerous causes out there
.
