Brenau graduate students can receive free assistance on coursework and shorter writing assignments through the Writing Center (≤ 15 pages).
However, comprehensive editorial review of theses and dissertations requires a more in-depth approach.
To support graduate students in refining their long-form academic writing, Graduate Editing Services (GES) provides paid independent editorial support for those working on theses, dissertations, and capstone projects.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a charge for Graduate Editing Services?
Yes. All editing services are provided at a flat rate of $25 per hour, paid directly to the editor. Payment details will be arranged between the student and the editor before work begins.
Who are the graduate editors?
Our editors are Brenau Writing Center graduate tutors who have advanced training in academic writing and editing. They work independently to provide editorial support outside of their tutoring duties.
Can I receive feedback remotely?
Yes! Editors work with students via email and document comments, ensuring flexibility for busy schedules. Zoom consultations may be arranged at the editor’s discretion.
What if I only need help with a chapter or section of my dissertation?
If you are working on a shorter section (15 pages or fewer), the Writing Center offers free tutoring sessions to help with structure, clarity, and argument development. Full-document review requires an editorial service request.
How do I get started?

What to Expect from an Editor
When you work with a Graduate Editing Services editor, here’s what you can expect:
- Editorial Feedback, Not Rewriting:
Your editor will provide comments, suggestions, and tracked edits to improve clarity, organization, and grammar. However, they will not rewrite sections of your work or alter your arguments. - A Collaborative Process:
- You will discuss your editing needs and goals before the process begins.
- The editor will return your document with tracked changes and margin comments so you can see exactly what was modified.
- If needed, you can follow up with your editor for clarification.
- Turnaround Time Considerations:
- Editing takes time! A thesis or dissertation may require multiple rounds of review.
- Submit your request well before your deadline to allow enough time for revisions.
- Final Document Release Policy:
- Finalized edits will be sent after full payment is received.
- If additional changes are requested after edits are completed, you and your editor can discuss an updated timeline.
